Block paving is highly durable and is expected to last reliably, if maintained, for at least 15-20 years. It is a wonderful material for a driveway or patio as it is incredibly hard-wearing and, as such, can easily cope with lots of motor and pedestrian traffic.

Aesthetically pleasing.

Little maintenance is required.

Before - the original driveway was made up of paving slabs and in a bit of a mess.

The original driveway needed digging out - removing the paving slabs, gravel and shrubbery.

All the rubbish was removed from the site.

A hard core aggregate was laid, compacted and levelled, over the whole area.

A weed proof membrane was installed and sharp sand laid, levelled and compacted.

Finished driveway - the block pavers were laid with a contrasting block pave edging.

Kiln dried sand was swept in between the joints of the block pavers to allow for the natural movement of the blocks and allow stability for the vehicles driving over it.

Any loose sand will be taken care of by the weather.

Installing a Block Driveway

Before installing a block pave driveway, it is important to prepare the ground.  The area to be block paved is dug out, hardcore laid, leveled and compacted. Drainage is installed, if required. A weed free membrane is laid and sharp sand is laid, leveled and compacted.

The edgings are then laid.  There are a variety of materials that may be used for the edgings. There is a choice of the type of material in different colours, sizes, shapes and designs.  The colour of the edgings can contrast or compliment the driveway.

The block paving is laid in a choice of pattern.  Once it is laid, kiln dried sand is swept between the block pave joints and compacted. This allows for the movement of vehicles over the block pave without damaging them.  .Any excess sand is brushed away.

Bespoke designs can be incorporated.  Steps, if required, can also be incorporated keeping the same design as the driveway.
